- Akrotiri
The “Akrotiri” is an excavation site of the Minoan Bronze Age. The site is named for a Modern Greek village situated on a nearby hill. The recently excavated Akrotiri was buried approx 1550 BC. Much like Pompai, you can see the everyday living conditions and articles like pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems and three-story buildings. The excavation was begun only in 1967.
This settlement of an advanced civilization, as well as the disaster that left it unknown through most of history, ihowever, is widely accepted as the inspiration behind Plato’s story of Atlantis.
