Fira

Many of the Archaeologous private guided shore excursion-tours start from Fira. This is Santorini’s capital. Your first glimpse will be from your cruise ship. It will look like a floating white cloud on top of a cliff 260 meters high. This is the bustling port town of Fira, made up of shops, restaurants, creperies, and white painted houses in stepped streets with blue domed churches and sun-bathed verandas. 

You will see amazing views of the Santorini “Caldera” from many of the little walkways as Fira is built on the edge of a 780’ (260 meters) high cliff. A part of Fira was destroyed by the 1956 earthquake and only a small part of the 18th century buildings were saved.
