Monastery of the Virgin Kalopetra

The Monastery of the Virgin Kalopetra, translated to English, is Good Stone/Rock, is found at the top of the Butterfly Valley jungle walk. It sits proud and by itself with a great overview vista of the island. The mosaic tile work is photo worthy. It was constructed in the late 1700's on top of an ancient temple from BC times.  It was built by a Greek Prince in gratitude for the waters found in this area that assisted in curing his daughter's tuberculosis.

The Prince later was to become the grandfather of the leader of the 1821 Greek Revolution.
