Nafplion

It was the first capital of the Greek State in the early 1800's and even now is the capital of the entire region of legendary Argolis. You can see how it is expanding up the hillsides near the north end of the gulf. It's beauty lies in the fact that the old town is on a peninsula that juts out into the gulf forming a beautiful naturally protected bay.

Nafplion is considered one of the most charismatic and charming cities in the Peloponnese region. Why? The lovely old mansions, the Old Town, the beaches like the Psili Ammos - thin sands (in the village of Tolo, 10 km from Nafplion), Palamidi Castle, and the Archaeological Museum of Nafplion.
