FIRST DAY: In the comfort of an A/C luxury coach, the tour exits Athens and after a countryside drive will arrive at Delphi around noon. Delphi was considered the center of the earth and the universe in ancient days. It played a central important role in the classical Greek world. Here, one will visit the archaeological site of the Temple of Apollo which was famous for the meeting place of the Delphi oracle.
After a Mediterranean lunch, the tour passes through central Greece with a short rest stop in Lamia. Subsequently, the excursion crosses the Thessalian plain to Kalambaka which is a small town built at the foot of the majestic Meteroa. We stay here for the night.
SECOND DAY:
In the morning, we leave for the nearby Meteora for a tour of the breathtaking cliff-top monasteries. We'll visit two different Byzantine Monasteries built on top of these wondrous rock towers. This amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site affords fantastic views of the plain and one is left in awe of mans' ingenuity.
We start our return to Athens and arrive in the late afternoon after passing the monument of hero Leonidas, King of Sparta, in Thermoplylae. We'll stop for photos of this historic place.
FYI: The monasteries themselves are perched on top of sandstone towers which served for centuries as safe havens for monks. Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful areas of Greece. Appropriate clothing is required! Ladies, no short skirts and long sleeves are required. Men, no shorts.
