 Your licensed educated guide will show you the Grand Master's Palace/Museum, with 2,400 years of history. The citadel itself was built in 1309 by the Knights of the Order of St. John, (The Hosptallers).  Experience the 500 year old 'Street of the Knights', the seven Medieval inns, (Tongues, with their decorative arched doorways, Coat of Arms and more. HISTORY: Rhodes has been inhabited since approx. 4,000 BC. being an important Byzantine trading post. The location sits in the shipping crossroads of ancient Alexandria and Constantinople. Rhodes has been the recipient of the influence from Middle East, Africa, and Europe. And you'll experience it today in the food, religions, language, styles, and culture in Rhodes. People have lived in peace for 2000 + years here as witnessed still by the myriad of Mosques, Synagogues, and Cathedrals.
