HIGHLIGHTS: Our destination ends at the 2,800 year old Acropolis of Lindos. We start with a scenic drive along the East Coast with it's many landscapes of forest and ocean views. We'll have a rest stop at the interesting Village of Archangelos
(Archangel) where
you will be able to see how the legendary Rhodes
pottery is created. At Lindos, we take a tree lined walk up to the Acropolis which the locals are proud to say that it is older and higher than the Acropolis in Athens. Enjoy the
Great Stoa, the Temple
of Athena (Goddess of Wisdom), the Ancient Theatre and some remains
of the Temple
of Dionysus
(God of Wine). You will be 350 feet above sea level with a magnificent view of
islands, beaches, and St
John's Bay where Saint John docked
before going onto Athens.
You have the day to shop and lunch and explore the highly rated 'Blue Flag' beach next to the village. Explore the medieval traditional architecture of Lindos Village which dates back to the 1400's. This was when the Knights of St John were rebuilding the Rhodes Grand Master Palace and the Lindos Acropolis. Upon leaving the village we stop quickly at the 15th century medieval Church of Virgin Mary. It has an
octagonal dome, carved icons and 17th century wall paintings.
FYI: No flash
cameras in the Church of Virgin Mary.
